Graduation is the biggest day in a family’s year and most of the family cannot be in the hall.
Graduation ceremony streaming, IMAG and event production for universities and colleges. Built for back-to-back ceremony days, international families and the moment a name gets read out.
The hall seats
1,200. The families
number 6,000.
Every university runs the same maths. Ticket allocation gets capped at two, sometimes three. Grandparents stay home. Siblings stay home. Parents in Lagos, Mumbai, Beijing and Riyadh were never getting a ticket in the first place.
For an international student, the stream is not a convenience. It is the only way their family sees the thing they paid for and waited three years for.
Which raises the stakes on the bit everyone underestimates: the ten seconds when the name is read and the student crosses the stage. Miss that shot and the whole broadcast failed, no matter how good the rest of it looked.
Graduation streaming for universities and colleges.
dwmedia provides live streaming and multi-camera production for higher and further education across the UK, covering graduation and award ceremonies, open days, inaugural lectures, conferences, public lectures and internal all-staff events. Most of the work is graduation, because graduation is the hardest of them and the one with the least margin for error.
A graduation season is a production challenge before it is a filming challenge. Universities typically run four to twelve ceremonies across two or three days, in the same venue, with a repeating format and a crew who need to hold the same standard at nine on the third morning as they did at eleven on the first. That means crew depth, kit redundancy and a workflow that does not depend on one person remembering something. We crew these jobs properly and we own our core equipment, both of which matter more across a multi-day run than they do on a single job.
The name-read moment
The entire ceremony builds to a repeated ten second sequence: the name is read, the graduand crosses, they shake hands with the chancellor, they turn to the audience. Cover it badly and every family gets a shot of the back of a head. We plan camera positions around the actual stage crossing, use a dedicated operator on the handshake, and cut to a rhythm rather than reacting, because the sequence repeats hundreds of times and reaction is always half a second too late. The same feed drives your IMAG screens in the hall, so the people in the room see it too.
International audiences and what happens afterwards
Because families are watching across time zones, the recording matters as much as the live stream. We deliver full ceremony recordings, and where you want them, individual clips for graduates to share, which are consistently the strongest organic marketing a university gets. Name pronunciation and on-screen name graphics can be built from your ceremony list in advance. Accessibility runs through all of it, with captions and BSL available for ceremonies and public lectures, covered on our accessibility page.
